To create a web-page & for the Small Business Environmental Assistance Program for Utah's Department of Environmental Quality.
Section 507 of the 1990 Clean Air Act Amendments requires each state establish a Small Business Environmental Assistance Program (SBEAP) to assist small businesses with environmental compliance and emissions reduction. The purpose of the web page is provide resources and information to small companies who need help with permits, compliance and even preventative actions they can take to run environmentally conscience businesses.
Before creating this page, I had to immerse myself into the program, learning its current offerings and parameters and finally helping to create a strategy for program development within the state. Additionally, I learned the technical functions and graphical elements that their web team could implement. Overall, I needed to make sure the design and content were inviting, in-line with the other Departmental programs, and easy to navigate even given the dense material.
I broke up the web page into five sections that flowed from one to the next based on the layering of information. I started with a brief run down of the program ensuring to keep the required information from the national program. Followed by their services broken into four sub-sections via an accordion and then four large buttons highlighting the most used and necessary resources. Since many small businesses are unaware of this free state service and its diverse offerings a brief Q & A highlights the top questions received and touches on the most important program services. Lastly, putting the face to the name. Since this program is majorly run by one individual I wanted to give the overwhelmed buiness owner a friendly face that they could turn to rather than another info email address.
The color scheme took colors from separate divisions to convey that this program encompassed the entire state department.
